Stay Fit without exercise

Von • 6. Oktober 2009 • Kategorie: Allgemeines

Adults need at least 150 minutes of physical activity a week to stay healthy.[1] If you want to be healthy while avoiding exercise, the best solution is to find ways to be more active in your daily routine. You can also incorporate more active hobbies into your downtime to get yourself moving. Additionally, part of staying fit is eating a healthy diet, so make sure you’re consuming plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Keep your energy levels up and help your body rest and recover from everyday activities by getting 7-9 hours of sleep every night. Learn how meticore can help you sleep.

Fitting More Activity into Your Day

Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Little changes like this one can help you stay fit without setting aside a specific time for exercise. Sometimes, the stairs are hidden away, but every building with multiple stories should have them.

    • Hotel stairs are often located at the ends of corridors. Look for „Exit“ signs.
    • Similarly, if you’re in a mall, find the stairs instead of using the escalator or elevator.
    • Taking the stairs is also a great option at work.

Take the long way around when walking. For instance, when you’re choosing a parking spot, park at the far end of the parking lot. At work, choose the farthest bathroom or vending machine to walk to. Adding in just a few extra steps a day can make a difference in keeping yourself fit.[2]

    • You could even choose a restroom on a different floor at work and use the stairs to get there.
    • At the grocery store, set up your list so you’ll need to go back and forth across the store.
    • If you’re at the laundromat, place your clothes in machines that are far away from each other so you’ll need to walk back and forth. Improve your life quality with nutrisystem.

Skip conveniences like delivery and grocery pickup services. Every time you have someone else do something for you, such as deliver food or shop for your groceries, you’re losing out on activity you could be doing yourself. When you have the time, do it yourself instead.[3]

    • Even loading and unloading the groceries in the car can be a workout, as it provides a little bit of strength training.

Walk or bike instead of driving. Walking and biking burn a lot more calories than driving your car, so opt to use your legs more often. For instance, you could bike to work. As a bonus, you’ll jump start your day, giving you more energy. In addition, walk or bike when running errands, such as when you go to the pharmacy or grocery store.[4]

    • If your work or errands are too far away, try taking public transportation. You’ll still get in more activity than driving, as you have to walk to and from the stops to get to where you’re going.

Avoid sitting for longer than 30 minutes at a time. If you work in an office, you may spend hours at your desk each day. Just getting up and moving around a little every 30 minutes can get you blood pumping and increase your activity level.[5]

    • If you can’t get up every 30 minutes, try doing it every hour instead. Every little bit helps.
    • If you forget to take breaks, set an alarm to remind yourself.
    • Get up and walk around, or do a few stretches. You could even do a few jumping jacks or wall pushups to get your heart pumping.

Change your office chair out for a fitness ball. A fitness ball helps you strengthen your core muscles. Pick a sturdy one, and inflate it until it’s firm. Sit on it throughout the day to improve your balance and improve your core muscle tone.[6]

    • If you have trouble balancing on a fitness ball, skip this option. You don’t want to hurt yourself.
